Ride of Silence 2018

The 2018 Ride of Silence Needs a Director and Committee

Last May over 250 bicyclists silently rode the streets of East Lansing and Lansing to commemorate cyclists who have been killed or injured. Volunteers accomplished this achievement with the efforts of a small planning committee and director. Mike Unsworth, who has directed several Rides, can no longer do so due to family commitments.

The main tasks of the planning committee are obtaining permissions, publicity, route planning, scheduling, and organizing the police escort. The director schedules & runs the planning meetings and writes up a report summarizing the ride. Other individuals volunteer for specific tasks.

The time commitment for the director is about thirty hours spread over the period from February to late May. Roughly five to eight pre-ride meetings are held as well as one post-ride wrap-up meeting. An extensive manual has been created to assist the director and planning committee.
